Prepare to Travel Safely!
As you get ready to travel this winter whether it be just going to the store or to a different state, don’t forget to be prepared! A good thing to ALWAYS travel with (especially in the winter time) is an emergency car kit! You don’t need to go out and spend a lot of money to get this ready either. Here is a list of the basics you will want while traveling and it won’t cost you hardly a thing to get ready to throw in your trunk.
1. Extra warm clothes (throw in some extra sweaters, hats, gloves, scarves, etc.) I threw in a sweater that I couldn’t part with for sentimental reasons, yet I never wore, also some hats that served their purpose years ago, and other items that haven’t been used in a while but will be great still in an emergency.
2. Blanket or two- You are sure to have an extra blanket or two lying around. (a wool blend one is best but anything is better than nothing!)
3. Hand sanitizer- If you don’t have any- you can get it for $1 in the travel size area at Target.
4. TP/Diaper/Feminine needs- You are sure to have extra of that! If not.. it’s time to go shopping anyways (of course, unless you don’t need diapers for your family).
5. Pain reliver/first aid kit- you can get a basic kit for about $5 or just gather some basic supplies from around your house. (band aids, Neosporin, Tylenol, etc.)
6. Paper/pencil/card game/book- something to do in case you break down!
7. Water- throw in a few water bottles (about $1 each)
8. Food- food that lasts a long time is best, however if you remember to use it up before it goes bad, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. work great.
9. Cash/change- for when you can’t use credit cards or checks
10. Map- in case your GPS doesn’t work and you get lost
11. Cell charger
12. Garbage bags- can be used for oh so many things!
13. Flashlight- extra batteries
14. Some other stuff to consider:
a. Flares
b. Compass
c. Whistle
d. Reflectors
e. Basic tools
f. Reflective blanket
g. Pocket knife
h. Other communication (besides Cell) – radio, etc.
