Annabel Karmel: Starting Solids {Review and Giveaway-CLOSED}

Starting Solids by Annabel Karmel is a great book for moms, like me, who are starting to wean their babies from milk to solids.
She says this about introducing solids: "My aim is not just to give parents information on what foods to give and when, but also to help them find ways to make these foods taste delicious - even without added seasoning - so that a baby is trained from an early age to enjoy eating healthy food."

I am determined that my children get a healthy taste for food and I've always bought expensive baby food in the jars, but with this book I know I have already saved money by making my own (even in bulk and storing it). There are over 50 recipes, one of our favorites being: Butternut Squash and Apple Puree. The recipes advance with their stages so you know when your baby is ready for new tastes and textures. The book helps you know how much your baby needs and of what variety. After a short time your baby needs more than just fruit and vegetables because they are low in calories, so they have included a menu planner for each stage that helps me make sure my baby is getting the variety he needs. It tells you the best new foods to try, what foods to avoid, and good food for little fingers.

I am weaning my third baby slowly and I love that I can make this food at my pace. I can freeze it and then use it as needed. Towards the end of the book their are recipes for the whole family that are healthy, easy and for EVERYONE. I love it when I don't have to make a meal for each person.

You can go to her website and try some of the recipes for yourself.

You can also buy her book here, she has over 18 books on children and nutrition. There are so many I want now!

She also sells baby food products like a steamer for the microwave and storage containers that you can freeze and microwave. The cube trays are a must!
