Julie Morgenstern Book {Review and Giveaway}

I was SO excited when I heard I would be getting this book to review! If you are like me, you are always looking for ways to become better organized! If you are… then this book will be FABULOUS for you. I loved it!

It is not a how to organize book as much as it helps you figure out what works for you and what doesn’t. Julie Morgenstern helps you figure out the madness behind the mess. The way I find myself organizing most days is as follows:

“Oh wow! My house is a mess!!! How did that happen? Hmm… I should get some plastic containers to store this and this pile” {run to store, buy containers} “That’s better!” {all my piles are now in containers, contained but not organized} “hmm.. there is no room for my containers, they are too tall for here, too big for there, they aren’t all the way full, what else should I put in them?”

Ok, so that is not exactly how it happens- but you get the picture. Julie talks about how we should first evaluate, then go buy (I know, not rocket science- but usually we are I am so involved in getting rid of the mess I just want to hurry and… get rid of it)

Julie also helps us work WITH our habits! Instead of trying to retrain ourselves or family (which is NOT easy!) just work with your habits. If you tend to come in and drop mail in a certain spot, get a basket or some other container to drop it in. If you drop shoes in a spot different from where you have your shoe rack, change that. If you try to create an organizing system that goes against your normal habits, it won't work, and it will be endlessly frustrating.

Another thing I loved that Julie taught was- if something doesn’t belong in a certain spot or room- find it a new home. A lot of my clutter ends up being just things that don’t have a home yet.

If you are looking for an organizing book- I recommend this one! I LOVED IT!!

What YOU are going to LOVE is....

My whole house needs organizing, but I would really like to organize my family room, especially the side of the room with my computer desk and files. It constantly attracts clutter and junk!

One of my favorite aisles to browse at the supermarket is the plastic bins aisle. I love the idea of organizing everything, and sometimes I get a little bit of organizing accomplished, but it just takes me TOO LONG to get anything done. Perhaps I need to figure out what's stopping me from really getting more accomplished. This book sounds great! My email is marencreswell@yahoo.com

I would LOVE to win this book. I have 5 kids and no organization. I try but am failing horribly. I think that if I had to choose one room in my house to start it would be my bedroom......it would be so nice to have a place to go that was organized and relaxing!!!! one of my favorite things to do is to organize... but I'm struggling with my basic family room/Den. Since I have moved in, I haven't been able to find a home for everything in our boxes, so I hope that this book will come to my rescue!
